Our Team

The people behind C-NAPSE

Deep scientific expertise, amplified by modern tools

C-NAPSE is deliberately small and senior. The people you meet are the people who do the work — researchers and practitioners who pair rigorous academic training with hands-on industry delivery, and who use AI to do more, faster, without losing the rigour.

Our team

Senior by default

A multidisciplinary team spanning computer science, robotics, international studies and sustainability — with real delivery experience across tech and the public sector.

João Carneiro

Founder & Principal Consultant
PhD · Computer Vision & RoboticsMSc · Computer Science & Engineering20+ yrs consultancyProduct Owner · Aptoide

João holds a PhD in Computer Vision and Robotics from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris) and an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon). Drawing on two decades of consultancy, he founded C-NAPSE in 2018 to apply deep technological knowledge and strategic acumen to innovation and growth. His active work spans roles as Product Owner at Aptoide and consultant to Lisbon City Council, alongside teaching Computer Science and research at CEPCEP – UCP, where he contributes to projects including Mapping Digital Inclusion across Europe and Web Accessibility for People with Cognitive Disabilities.

Research & R&D

Where the science comes from

Before C-NAPSE, João spent years at the frontier of research and engineering — from neuromorphic engineering and computer vision to wireless sensor networks and award-winning art-meets-technology projects. That depth is what lets us both win the funding and build what we propose.

2009 · Studio Roosegaarde

“Intimacy” — interactive fashion

As R&D Engineer, João led Studio Roosegaarde’s first wireless-sensor-network project: “Intimacy”, high-tech garments whose smart e-foils turn transparent in response to social interaction — a wearable fusion of art, fashion and technology, created with V2_Lab and fashion designer Maartje Dijkstra.

Embedded systems

Wireless Sensor Networks & IoT

João designed a proprietary, low-power wireless sensor communication protocol — building the embedded-C drivers and communication layers on PIC and ARM microprocessors for fast, reliable and energy-efficient data transmission.

Doctoral research

Neuromorphic Engineering & Computer Vision

João’s PhD spanned computer vision and neuromorphic engineering — brain-inspired, event-driven approaches to visual perception and robotics at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris.

Applied research

Digital inclusion & accessibility

Ongoing research at CEPCEP–UCP on projects such as Mapping Digital Inclusion across Europe and Web Accessibility for People with Cognitive Disabilities.

How we work

Lean by design. Senior by default. Amplified by AI.

We believe the shape of expert work is changing. A small, highly skilled team equipped with agentic AI can now deliver what once required a much larger firm — with more speed, lower overhead and direct access to the people who actually do the work. We run C-NAPSE on the same workflows we build for our clients.

Senior-led delivery

No hand-offs to junior teams. The experts who scope your work are the ones who deliver it.

AI-amplified, not AI-replaced

We use agentic workflows to remove the manual load — so judgement, rigour and strategy get our full attention.

Evidence over opinion

An academic backbone means every recommendation is grounded in data and method, not just experience.

Work directly with the people who do the work

Tell us what you’re building or funding — you’ll talk to a principal, not a sales desk.
